SKIN BENEFITS OF MORUS ALBA BARK EXTRACT

Mulberry (Morus alba L.) belongs to the Moraceae family and is widely planted in China and East Asia. They contain considerable amounts of biologically active ingredients that might be associated with some potential pharmacological activities that are beneficial for health and beauty.

Studies have reported that extract of mulberry contain: tannins, phenolic compounds (gallic acid, anthocyanin), resveratrol, mulberroside F and flavonoid (quercetin), with beauty effects such as:

  • Anti-oxidant by neutralizing free radical (ROS) due to the rich composition of phenolic compounds. Those help protect the skin from damage caused by ultraviolet rays from sunlight and contribute to prevent from skin aging.
  • Skin brightening: inhibit tyrosinase enzyme and prevent melanin formation by mulberroside F in the extract.
  • Reduce inflammation: resveratrol in mulberry extract inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 and nitrite oxide (NO) as well as reduces white blood cell activity, reduces symptoms of swelling, redness, and pain.

It is considered a beauty ingredient for the skin with high safety and benign. The extract has not recorded any pre-allergic reactions when using topical route.
